How Can I Take My Berger Picard Through Flyball Training?
Start with a 15- to 20-minute session of tennis ball fetch. Your goal is to have your dog return the ball to you without dropping it. Reward your dog’s effort with a treat. This not only provides your dog with positive reinforcement, but also causes him to drop the ball so you may begin the game again.
Once you are happy with your dog’s fetching abilities, add a hurdle to increase the difficulty. Place the hurdle on a level surface and stand in front of it with your dog. In this position, throw the ball over the hurdle and order your dog to retrieve the ball using a friendly tone.

Set up the course now that you’ve introduced all the essential features of the sport. The distance between each hurdle should be between six and ten feet, and the box should be at least fifteen feet away from the fourth hurdle.
Position yourself near your dog and place the tennis ball on the box. Then, signal your dog to jump over the obstacles and retrieve the ball.
Repeat this again and over until your dog has mastered the sport. When your dog is sufficiently trained, you can add additional dogs to the mix or join a local flyball club and begin competing.
